¢ Home must perform at least 15% better than code based on energy modeling software

¢ Focus is primarily on tight building envelope, correctly installed insulation, air-tight
forced air systems (ductwork) and efficient mechanical systems.

¢ Progress Energy and Duke Power customers receive a 5% discount for Energy Star
Qualified Homes

¢ Requires a third-party inspector to evaluate the above-mentioned details.

NC Healthy Built Homes Program

¢ State Program administered by the North Carolina Solar Center at NC State University

¢ Point-based checklist with sections concerning site, water usage, indoor air quality,
materials and renewable energy (each section has minimum points required for certification)which can lead to 4 different levels of certification.

¢ Builder/Homeowner has several options in meeting the required points for each section
thus program offers great flexibility

¢ Energy Star Certification is a prerequisite to the Healthy Built Homes Program

¢ Requires a third-party inspector to evaluate the above-mentioned details

LEED for Homes

¢ Administered by the United States Green Building Council

¢ National Program similar to North Carolina Healthy Built Homes

¢ Contains Prerequisites and Point-based items

¢ LEED for Homes is in its Pilot Stage and has not yet hit the Western North Carolina
Housing market

¢ Energy Star Certification is a prerequisite to the LEED for Homes Program

¢ Requires a third-party inspector to evaluate the above-mentioned details

Home Energy Partners- E Plus Program

¢ Requires advanced HVAC testing, air balancing and diagnostic evaluations for
improved Indoor Air Quality and Mechanical Systems Performance (installed efficiencies
of mechanical equipment beyond manufacturers ratings)

¢ Requires approved building envelope systems (i.e. fiberglass insulation and
unsealed
crawlspaces are not allowed)

¢ Works in conjunction with all above-mentioned programs

¢ Energy Star Certification is a prerequisite to the E Plus Program

¢ Requires a certified Home Energy Partners representative to evaluate the above             mentioned details
